History Of Mexican Village

A Grand Forks Landmark!!

Visit us on Facebook!!
Mexican Village has been a part of the Great Grand Forks restaurant scene for over 60 years.  We had our humble beginnings downtown Grand Forks in the early 1960's in a basic two-story wooden building.   It was named Casa Mora, named after the original owner Bob and Monica Mora.  Bob was retired from the Air Force and was looking for something new to get into.  He wanted to blend a mixture of Mexican with a hint of Northern cooking being that there is such a strong influence of Scandinavian ancestry.    He never knew it would take off as well as it did!  A few years later they were looking to expand because they had grown so much.  They decided to move "Uptown" to a new strip mall that had been built on South Washington, at that time on the edge of the city! Casa Mora was reborn once again! They were one of its first tenants!  The Moras' had Casa Mora until the early 1980's when Ray and Mae Gordon purchased the restaurant.  Along with the new owners, came a new name, "Ole and Paco's Mexican Village!! With the new owners and the new name also came a remodel of the inside and private booths were created plus a waiting area and cashier stand. The Gordan's also purchased a commercial kitchen and with that created a private label business.  They started producing Mexican Village Hot Sauce, Bean Dip, Queso and a number of spices. They would sell it to local grocery stories, therefor causing the brand to reach more people.  Our spices have been mailed out in recent years to customers in Egypt, England and Germany, just to name a few!
In the year 2001 came a new owner, Angie Green (Heit) She had been a server for the Gordons for nearly 10 years.  She had put herself through college, earning herself a teaching degree.  Even during her teaching career, she would hold down a few evenings a week serving.  One evening the Gordon's asked her to stay later after closing and she was offered the opportunity to buy the Village.
